Ceredigion Youth Service participated in International Youth Project in Italy!

Ceredigion Youth Service recently participated in an International Youth Exchange Project hosted in Italy, alongside Youth Groups from Poland, Spain, Malta and Italy. The group joined 32 other young people aged between 14-17 and 8 other Youth Workers from Italy, Spain, Malta and Poland between the 19 – 26 of August 2018.

The week long project was titled ‘Out of the Box’ and focused on immigration and integration. The project focused on themes including identity, cultural differences, stereotypes and prejudice, migration and constructive dialogue through a range of workshops, brainstorming, role play and team games. The project was a great opportunity for a group of young people from Ceredigion to build friendships with other youngsters from across Europe.

The project was hosted by Italian Youth Organisation, Associazione Giovaninsieme and was funded by Erasmus+. The project took place in the mountain town of Torgnon in the Aosta Valley and later in Turin, Northern Italy.

Eight young people from across Ceredigion took part in this year’s international project. Molly Isherwood (Ceredigion Youth Council), Caredig Ap Tomos (Ceredigion Youth Council), Seren Williams (Ceredigion Youth Council), Dyfan Hunt (Penparcau Youth Club), Matthew Howe (Cardigan Youth Club), Thomas Evans (Young Volunteer), Chloe Toose (Aberaeron Youth Club) and Neide Willis (Aberaeron Youth Club).

Lowri Evans, Deputy Principal Youth Officer said “This year’s international exchange visit to Italy was a fantastic experience for a group of our young people from Ceredigion for many reasons. The idea behind the project focused on immigration, but the project as a whole was a great opportunity for young people from across the world to build friendships, breakdown barriers and get to know one another. By the end of the week, there was a real sense of integration between all of the youth groups and the Ceredigion group were very sad to leave at the end of the week. We’re confident that each individual has developed new skills, developed their knowledge and understanding of immigration and gained new experiences that they will never forget.”

Some of the participants described the project as “The activities were very fun and interesting!” and “A very interesting and thought provoking project about immigration and integration. I will carry and value what I have learnt this week for a long time!”.
